My Favorite Restaurant

I am fortunate to have dined at many of SF and NYC's best restaurants over the past decade or so. While it's difficult for me to decide upon a favorite dish, I can certainly tell anyone who asks what my favorite dining establishment is: Gary Danko in San Francisco.

Most five-star restaurants share the same qualities of fabulous decor, renowned chefs, and unique dishes that characterize their menus. However, there is only one location that is consistently a 10 out of 10. Gary Danko is it. If you want to wow a business associate, your new girlfriend, or future in-laws, this is the place to go.

Here's why: I have quite a history of dining out during my career as a Mistress. I allow a select group of clients this privilege, and I've been able to judge restaurants on their consistency via repeat visits over time. Some locations knocked my socks off the first time, but then didn't live up to my expectations in subsequent visits (Farallon). Other locations lack the atmosphere to make them truly enjoyable (Masa's is just TOO stuffy). And yet some places are made most enjoyable by the company I've dined with, while they are only a 9 out of 10 on my personal scale ( Jardinere, Boulevard, Fifth Floor). Gary Danko has ALWAYS been a 10 out of 10. The atmosphere, service, menu, and wine list are always stellar. They also have some of the largest portions I've ever encountered for a high-end restaurant. If you're leery of having a meal where presentation trumps portion, then Gary Danko is the place for you!

I want to thank those who have accompanied me to Gary Danko over the past few years. My dining experience would not have been the same without someone to share the table and discuss the adventure that is their menu.

Although I agree that it is hard to separate the dinner companion from the evaluation of the restaurant , Gary Danko combines a comfortable elegance with excellent food, knowledgeable wait staff and excellent winelist. There is no better restaurant experience in the U.S.

Our experience at Fifth Floor was a 9 out of 10, but Danko's was 10 out of 10. Since you are so well-traveled, I think your evaluation of this establishment lends much creedance to my opinion :).
